Project Overview

Completed the installation of MetecnoSpan and MetecnoPanel systems to the base structure and adjoining sections of the new New Norcia Deep Space Antenna. This project forms part of the European Space Agency's international initiative to expand its deep space antenna network, enhancing global communication and tracking capabilities for missions including JUICE, ExoMars, Euclid and PLATO.

FMR's scope was comprehensive and technically demanding: structural steel fabrication and erection of large-span components, thermal and weather-resistant insulated panel installation for climate-sensitive satellite systems, construction of a secure blast-rated entrance facility, a standalone HVAC and vacuum control plant room, fit-for-purpose storage and staging facilities, and an environmentally compliant oily water drainage and filtration system.

Operating in a remote, culturally sensitive monastic region alongside international space agencies required exceptional planning and coordination. The team worked across time zones with European engineers to meet exacting specifications, maintained millimetre-accurate tolerances critical for satellite alignment, and ensured minimal ground disturbance on a protected heritage site.
